Stirring Up Ghosts - Volumes 1 & 2 (released only a few weeks ago) is Tiller’s Folly’s ninth album; a crowd-funded, double CD collection of the group’s story-based music from the Pacific Northwest

A project of epic proportion, it took 33 musicians, a half-dozen studios and as many engineers 18 years to build the largest collection of historically-based Canadiana ever assembled.

Stirring Up Ghosts contains a total of twenty-one ballads and three instrumental tracks composed by Tiller’s Folly lead singer and story teller, Bruce Coughlan.

While tracks are drawn in part from earlier recordings, they’ve been entirely re-mastered by Juno award-winning producer/engineer Joby Baker, who also produced many of the newer and previously un-released songs.

Songs of triumph and adventure, of heroes and villains from the True North’s colourful past:

On 16 Sept 1924 the keeper of the Turn Point Light noticed a small craft drifting northward up Haro Strait.....The BERYL G, a fish packer turned rum-runner was discovered near Sidney Island floating with no one aboard and the cabin smeared with blood. Missing was the captain, his teenage son and their cargo of liquor.

The case might never have been solved, if not for an undeveloped picture in young William's camera, which when developed, showed a picture of the murderers! READ MORE……

Very exciting news for Tiller's Folly today the "Stirring Up Ghosts" Volumes 1&2 has been nominated for The Roots Duo/Group Recording of the Year by the Western Canadian Music Awards.

Songs of triumph and adventure, of heroes and villains from the True North’s colourful past.

Tiller’s Folly announces the release of their 9th album: Stirring Up Ghosts - Volumes 1 & 2, a double CD collection of the group’s historically-based music from the Pacific Northwest.

Drawn from recordings that span the band’s 18 year history, Stirring Up Ghosts is the largest collection of original historic-based music ever assembled by a band and composed by a single writer Tiller’s Folly’s own Bruce Coughlan.

A first ‘special’ edition of Stirring Up Ghosts Disc 1, was released in 2008 to commemorate British Columbia's 150th Anniversary and the Simon Fraser Bi-Centennial. This original 12-song collection quickly sold out.

Fast forward to 2015: Now, thanks to the generous support of Tiller's Folly FANS, through a Kickstarter crowd funding initiative, Tiller’s Folly has expanded the collection to include 21 historically-based ballads along with 3 bonus instrumental tracks in a new Stirring Up Ghosts 2 CD album. This entire collection has been digitally re-mastered by award-winning producer/engineer Joby Baker, who also produced songs for this Stirring Up Ghosts Collection.

TILLER'S HIGHLIGHTS 2014

2014 was a transitional year for Tiller’s Folly. After 3 years of constant focus on breaking ground in the South, we turned our attention closer to home, and back to more familiar surroundings. None the less, the year contained a number of wonderful surprises.

We bid adieu to the South (for the time being) with a January visit to Atlanta where we performed at Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt University in Waleska, GA. One of the most amazing sounding theatres ever!

We renewed our relationship with Caline Artists International, who now handle our bookings. (Our representative Margot Holmes can be reached through our Contact page) We look forward to re-visiting many of our old haunts through the next few seasons.

Tiller’s Folly travelled to Prince Edward Island this summer to help to commemorate the first meeting of the Fathers of Confederation; The 150th Anniversary of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference. While in the Maritimes, we performed in PEI, Nova Scotia & New Brunswick. We had a great visit!

John Cowan released his landmark album Sixty and recorded The Things I Haven’t Done (from Tiller’s Folly – A River So Wide 2007) with Country Music icon Rodney Crowell and  the Doobie Brother’s rhythm section. The track was his first single and launched the album into the Americana Top 20! The album also garnered 3 Grammy nominations! Congratulations John!

Mazatlan was a particularly amazing time! Our hosts Brent Mcathey and Tanya Carrum of Brenster Productions and Lance Vient and the entire staff at the Hotel Playa Resort conspired to make our show and our stay the highlight of the year. Friends who joined us in Mexico made it all the more memorable!

We had a chance to perform at a number of fabulous Celtic Music events including LaGrande Highland Games, The Mount Vernon Highland Games and The Galway Bay Irish Festival (in Ocean Shores).

Our Kickstarter initiative for Stirring Up Ghosts- Volumes 1 & 2 was funded and we are able to release our 9th CD, what a great way to begin 2015!!
